If you have an IMAP account on this server, you have the choice to access your email via POP3 or IMAP. Both protocols have their advantages and disadvantages, which are discussed here. The main difference is that in POP3 the email is stored on your computer, while in IMAP the mail is stored on the server even after you download it. This allows access to your email, sent or received, from any internet-connected computer -- through the web or via your email client. IMAP also supports multiple folders, and, with certain tricks, a remote address book. You can also download parts of a message on demand, download a list of headers, and delete unwanted messages without downloading the whole message.
This page will guide you through the process of setting up an IMAP account on your computer. Although you can use any IMAP compatible email client (Netscape/Pine/Outlook), Outlook seems to handle IMAP best at this time, especially if you don not have a permanent Internet connection.

There is a screen shot for each step (11 total) from an English version of Outlook Express. If you have a different version installed, you should still be able to find your way as the dialogs will look more-or-less the same.

To start with, you will need to know the following information:
  • Your name
  • Your username (part of your email address, before the '@')
  • Your password
Let's get started!

Step 1:
After starting Outlook Express, select "Tools" then "Accounts" from the menu of the main window. You will see the following screen:

Click "Add" -> "Mail" as shows in the picture.

Step 2:
A new dialog pops up. Enter your name and click Next.
This name will appear on every email you send.

Step 3:
Now you are asked to enter your full email address as shown on the picture. Replace the highlighted "user" (in blue) with your assigned username. Click Next.

Step 4:
This step asks for your incoming and outgoing mail servers. Enter "lugosoft.com" in both fields as shown below. Select IMAP in the box on the top; this is your last chance to decide between IMAP or POP3, or you will have to re-create an account. Click Next.

Step 5:
Here you will enter your password. The username should be already preset for you, verify that is is your assigned username. You may want to check "Remember password" if this is your home computer and you do not want to be asked for your mail password every time you send or receive mail. Do not check "Log on using ... SPA"! Click Next.

Step 6:
That's easy... just click Finish and you will end up in the Account List dialog.

Step 7:
Final modifications... in the dialos shown below, select the account you have just created in the list (if not already selected) and click "Properties".

Step 8:
You will be presented with the account properties dialog. The first tab should be fine as it is... (Your Name will show the name you entered)

Step 9:
On the second tab (Servers) check the "My server requires authentication" checkbox under "Outgoing Mail Server". Click Settings...

Step 10:
Verify that the authentication settings are as shown below... You may also enter your username and password once again in the respective boxes below if you really want to.

Step 11:
Here are the IMAP specific options. Uncheck the option "Check for mail in all folders" -- this slows things down, and mail is only delivered to your Inbox anyway. You should also enter "INBOX" for the Root path, this will make your folder tree look a bit nicer... it's not necessary though.

You should be all set now. More info on how to use Outlook Express for email is not included here...
The server supports multiple folders and sub-folders to organize your mail. This email will be stored on the server and available to you via the Web as well: http://mail.lugosoft.com/.

You may also want to check the "Pure deleted messages when leaving IMAP folder" option, found under Tools -> Options; this will place messages marked deleted in your Trash can on the server. Messages older than 30 days are discarded from the Trash automatically.
